OSH STATE UNIVERSITY GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS REPORT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GREENHOUSE GAS PROTOCOL AND OTHER WIDELY USED STANDARDS
Objective of Osh State University in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Within an implementation of sustainable development principles at Osh State University, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has become one of the priority areas in recent years. Osh State University strives to enhance environmental responsibility in its operations and align with global climate goals.
Greenhouse gas emissions are categorized in accordance with the international GHG Protocol standard as follows:
- Scope 1 (Direct emissions) – emissions from university-owned vehicles and boiler systems;
- Scope 2 (Indirect emissions) – emissions associated with purchased electricity and heat.
At present, Osh State University is at the development stage of establishing a comprehensive emissions inventory and systematic accounting process. However, Osh State University is already implementing several practical measures:
Key Measures:
- Gradual introduction of energy-saving technologies (LED lighting, energy-efficient equipment);
- Thermal insulation of academic buildings and improvement of energy efficiency;
- Reduction of paper consumption and advancement of digitalization;
- Raising environmental awareness among students and staff (trainings, events);
- Expansion of green areas and campus greening initiatives.
Although Osh State University may not yet have formally declared a carbon neutrality commitment by 2050, there is potential for adopting such a strategy in the future in line with global trends. This objective is consistent with international climate agreements such as the Paris Agreement.
Supporting Documents and Indicators:
- Strategic development programs of the University;
- Internal reports on energy consumption;
- Infrastructure modernization projects;
- Data on environmental activities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Osh State University is taking initial steps toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and has the potential to strengthen systematic policies in the future to achieve sustainable development goals.
Looking ahead, Osh State University is implementing projects to utilize solar energy in academic buildings and dormitories for heating, hot water supply, and electricity generation. As shown in the figure below, solar panels have been installed on the roof of Academic Building No. 15. These panels generate up to 160 kW of electricity per hour, and the possibility of selling excess electricity to the Osh Electro company is currently under consideration.
