IRCAPS Mission

The mission of IRCAPS is to transform Osh State University into a permanent research center dedicated to the study of ambient and indoor air pollution, bringing together satellite monitoring, regional air pollution modeling, and medical research.

IRCAPS aims to visualize the real picture of air pollution and its impact on human health and the economy of Kyrgyzstan, and to use scientific evidence to develop recommendations for public policy.

Key Objectives

1. Satellite Monitoring and Air Pollution Modeling To develop an air pollution assessment model based on satellite data, deep learning, and a ground-based monitoring network in Osh.

2. Regional Air Pollution Forecasting To develop a system for assessing and forecasting air pollution across Kyrgyzstan using emission inventories and regional chemical transport modeling.

3. Assessment of Health and Economic Impacts To establish the relationship between air pollution and population health through cohort studies in Bishkek and Osh and analysis of PM₂.₅ and PM₁₀, as well as to estimate the economic impact of air pollution and the potential reduction in disease risks.

4. Reduction of Indoor Air Pollution To study the impact of household heating and ventilation on indoor air quality and develop practical measures to improve indoor air environments.

5. Public Awareness and Evidence-Based Policy To communicate research findings to ministries, professionals, and the general public, promote evidence-based measures through awareness campaigns, seminars, and policy recommendations, and train the next generation of Kyrgyz researchers and specialists.
