FROM THE HISTORY OF THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Natural Sciences, Tourism and Agrarian Technologies has a traditional structure in the field of higher education and scientific research and is affiliated with Osh State University.

According to the resolution No. 1142 of the Council of People′s Commissars of the Kyrgyz SSR dated August 10, 1939, the Osh Institute of Teachers was opened, and in 1940 students were admitted to the natural science-geography major for the first time. In the 1944-1945 academic year, 59 students were admitted to the 1st year. On July 18, 1951, Osh State Pedagogical Institute was established and the Department of Natural Science and Geography was opened on the basis of the joint resolution of the Central Committee of the Kyrgyz SSR and the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR. In the 1952-1953 academic year, the Departments of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry and Physical Education conducted their activities at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. In 1954-1955, the Faculty of Natural Sciences was called the Faculty of Biology.

In 1960, in connection with the training of new specialists in geography, its material-technical and teaching-methodical base was changed to the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography. for expansion, there, on the left bank of the Ak-Buura River, the subject laboratories of botany, zoology, and the basics of agriculture were opened for the creation of an agrobiostation, and scientific research experiments were conducted.

In 1966-1973, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography was renamed thFaculty of Biology.

In 1985, the department of geography was reopened on the basis of the Department of Zoology.

In 1988, the faculty moved to the new building it is currently using, and its material and technical base was upgraded to a new level.

In 1992, the department of agriculture was opened, and for the first time zooengineering

and training of personnel in agronomy specialties is regulated. Since 1996, agroecology and agroeconomics specialties have been opened.

In 2001, a specialty in applied geodesy was opened. In 2012, higher education in Kyrgyzstan is a two-level education

In connection with the transfer to the system of transfer, the preparatory work for bachelor′s and master′s degrees has been started at the faculty. In the same year, there was an admission to a bachelor′s degree in "tourism"

In 2014, admission to the master′s degree in natural science education (biology, chemistry, geography) and tourism was started.

In 2018, the specialty in the field of veterinary medicine was re-opened at the faculty. In that year, special secondary education in tourism, veterinary medicine and geodesy began (in 2020 it was separated into a separate college).

In 2020, bachelors in the field of agronomy began to be prepared. Based on the decision of the Academic Council of OshMU dated January 28, 2022 (Protocol No. 4) and the rector′s order dated March 3, 2022 (No. 315- FHD/22), the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography was reorganized into the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Tourism and Agrarian Technologies.

In the history of the development of the faculty, there were structural divisions due to the needs of the times and the increase in the number of students: Geography in 1990-1992. In 2002-2009, the faculties of geography and nature use, and in 2005-2008, the faculties of chemistry and pharmacy worked independently.

Since January 19, 2019, the faculty has been headed by Professor A.G. Nizamiev.
